Kayla Itsines bikini body guide isn’t the perfect guide for having that banging bikini body every woman wants. My review pretty much sums up why I wouldn’t recommend it.

Before I begin my review proper, I’d like to clarify a few things. My review would be a tad more different from all the reviews floating around, major reason is because – I did NOT buy Kayla’s guide, and if you are interested in knowing why, I would advise you keep reading so you weigh your options before buying any guide.

As a woman who has given birth to two beautiful kids, I can tell you that pregnancy and child birth tends to shoot up your weight by some extra pounds. If you are anything like me and have stopped talking care of yourself because of your schedule, now is the time to reverse and do a full overhaul of fitness regime.

I have done pretty much the whole stressful part of researching for the best weight loss plan to every woman should follow to achieve the best result which ultimately is a great bikini body your man would appreciate.

My research led me to series of weight loss programs including Kayla Itsines bikini body guide. Checked out series of articles about Kayla Itsines and read her story which is pretty interesting, also got to know how she became InstaFamous (an Instagram celebrity) using her workout session videos and pictures.

Of course, I was convinced. I decided to get in shape using Kayla’s guide which I believed was effective. I also did actually until I saw the price for her guides and boy are they hefty!

If you add the gym equipment you would need to purchase to do the workouts, you’d find out you would be spending a ton of money.

Here’s where my problem with the Kayla Itsines guide starts. First, the guide comes in batches of 3 months or 12 weeks. This means you pay for the first workout guide which covers from week 1 to week 12, once you are done you pay for the next guide which is same price and from week 13 to 24. So, you would be spending approximately $140 for a guide covering 6 months of exercise and workout routine? Expensive!

As if the cost of the guides is not expensive enough, Kayla recommends you shell out some extra bucks on gym equipment. She recommends getting two benches/steps, two small dumbbells (each weighing between 3 to 5kg), a skipping rope, a medicine ball (weighing between 6 to 12kg), a mat which is optional (if you have a tiled floor, it’s better and more comfortable), and finally a bosu ball. There’s also recommendation of a heart rate monitor/fitness tracker which costs about $99.97 if you are interested in purchasing.

Once you calculate the amount you would be spending on equipment and all, you’d find out that’s some pretty expensive list even if you buy second-hand equipment. Though you could go to the gym and make do with the equipment there, but this guide was meant to be a personal guide you could do at your own convenience in the comfort of your home, yes?

Let’s say you were able to get all the equipment, you would require space, and quite a lot of it, because these equipment are sure to consume space.

The nutrition guide (which is sold separately) is another huge turnoff I really don’t like about Kayla’s guide. After going through different reviews and opinions about it, I arrived at the same conclusion as everyone – it’s not worth it.

Most people have three main issues with the nutrition guide;

  1. The food contained in the guide are all expensive
  2. Most people are of the opinion that the diets recommended are not good for your health.
  • Why isn’t it free?

Overall, is Kayla Itsines Guide worth the money?

Well. Before I answer this question, I’d like to remind you that this is “my bikini body guide review’. Since we’ve agreed on that, I’m of the opinion that the guide is not really not worth it, considering that this is a digital download and there are several other highly popular and well known guides available.

The extra costs you’ll incur if you choose to go with the guide are really ‘inconveniencing’, and truthfully that’s the main reason I dropped out half way from choosing the guide.

The Kayla Itsines Alternative That Worked For Me

Okay, after going through and weighing the pros and cons, I decided I wouldn’t spend my money on Kayla’s guides. If you feel you can afford it, and believe it would give you the results you seek, then by all means go ahead with it. Myself, I moved on and was back to square one.

I started an intensive search on Google and YouTube for a better Kayla Itsines alternative, which is cheaper and would still get me the bikini body I crave and thankfully, I came across the Jen Ferruggia’s Bikini Body Workouts. If you ask me, I’d say Jen Ferruggia’s guide is almost similar to Kayla Itsine’s guide in a way, but the best part is that the guide is far cheaper than the former and packs more practical ways to get your desired body.

The exercise videos are obviously my most fascinating addition to the guide. Watching the videos on my iPad has seen me master the exercises and perform them in the right way. I believe this is a major determinant for my success with the guide. If you don’t perform the exercises in the correct manner, you could end up slowing down the results or even getting injured in the process.

Overall, I’m not saying that the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body guide is terrible, NO. I just don’t see why I would spend all that money on her guide which offers same thing as Jen Ferrugia’s, only this time Jen’s Bikini Workout guide is way cheaper and comes with videos.

The much anticipated new program from Kayla Itsines, Sweat with Kayla, has been released.  Today, I will be giving my personal thoughts and opinions on the product.

I was excited about seeing what Sweat with Kayla was all about after the great reviews her Bikini Body Guide had received.

Sadly, after doing some research on the product I was disappointed. I will explain further some of the aspects that left me a little more than unimpressed.

I must be assured that I will be getting my money’s worth. Kayla is known to have more expensive products than some of her competitors, and this one is no different.

The new Sweat with Kayla is $19.99 per month. Yikes. I was expecting a one-time fee.  That is like adding a new bill to my already tight budget. I know for some this may be affordable, heck maybe even a deal, but not for this single mother of three. The thought of having to spend $240 a year on an app just makes me cringe.

I wanted to just leave the site right then and there, but I was really curious to see what exactly $19.99 a month would get you.


What New Things Are Included in Sweat with Kayla?

Well, the first thing that is new is the monthly billing, as mentioned before, you end up spending around $240 a year for the new program.

Second, is the mobile platform. I guess being able to take it wherever you go is pretty convenient, but still doesn’t have me sold on the price. After searching, these were the only differences I was able to find between the Bikini Body Guide and Sweat with Kayla.

The exercise program seems to be exactly the same as the one in the Beach Body Guide.

The nutritional guide also appears to not have been updated in anyway.

This leaves me somewhat confused. Why would anybody who has already purchased the Bikini Body Guide want to purchase this one? For the mobile version? In all actuality, this is the BBG repackaged for the mobile platform, that’s it. I guess for some it could be worth it, but for me personally, I am going to have to pass. You will have to offer me more than mobility to make that type of investment.

Exercise Program

I was able to complete both workout programs with ease and little difficulty. The exercises are easy to catch on to and the illustrations included are really helpful. Jen’s program also came with video instruction, just in case you have any doubt that you are doing the moves correctly.

I liked both programs, but I think the videos give Jen somewhat of an advantage over Kayla in the exercise department.


The Jen Ferruggia Bikini Body Workout is super convenient, requiring only a pair of weights, resistance band and a chair! You are also only required to do four 45-minute workouts weekly.  This was really appealing to me as my schedule is always jammed packed.

On the other hand, Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Guide takes quite a bit of equipment. You will either have to spend a ton of money on equipment or do your workout in a gym, requiring monthly membership fees. You are also required to do 30-minute workouts 7 days per week on Kayla’s program.

I personally don’t have the money to dish out on new equipment and I certainly don’t have time to make a trip to the gym every single day. I think in terms of convenience Jen’s program wins hands down.

The Diet

Keep in my mind that you must purchase Kayla’s diet plan separately. With her program you get a two-week plan and some general information, if you want the recipes you must also purchase that separately. The caloric intake seems really low for someone participating in a workout program. Everyone wants to see weight loss, but it needs to happen healthy and naturally. One thing I did like about her meal plan was it has a vegan option.

The Jen Ferruggia diet program includes a menu and complimentary shopping list. The meal plan seems much more comprehensive and laid out. The varieties of food also seem much more appealing than on the other meal plan.

Once again, in my opinion, Jen Ferruggia’s Bikini Body Workout is the better option.

My personal results: 

The first program the I tried was the Bikini Body Guide. I did lose 7 pounds fairly quickly on the program. Unfortunately, I had a tough time sticking to this program for a few reasons. The low calorie diet would leave me starving and in turn I would find myself cheating just to fuel my body. I was also suffering from horrible headaches and mood swings due to lack of proper nutrition. Another issue I had was making it to the gym each day. I just could not consistently work it in around my work schedule. I do not feel I could have any long term results from this program.

Next, I tried out the Bikini Body Workout. As with the Bikini Body Guide, I lost fair amount of weight pretty quickly. The difference is, I was able to stick to Jen’s program and have consistently lost weight. The diet plan is easy to follow and I am allowed to intake enough calories to keep me full, so I don’t have those moments of overindulgence. I can do all four of the weekly workouts in my living room, which resolves the gym issue. I feel better, I look better and I now have a whole new outlook on my nutrition.

Once again, the Bikini Body Workout wins my vote.
